Clinical Psychologist

The closing date is 26 January 2026. This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route.

University Hospitals Sussex is a regional teaching hospital across several sites following recent merger of two large trusts. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our neuropsychology team providing specialist clinical psychology input to patients with neurological conditions within our specialist regional neurosciences centre.


Main Duties

* To provide a specialist clinical neuropsychology outpatient service to patients within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust regional neurosciences services.
* To provide assessment, intervention and rehabilitation to adults presenting with stroke, acquired brain injury and neurological conditions, as needed.
* To offer advice and consultation on psychological and neuropsychological care to members of the interdisciplinary team, other relevant healthcare professionals, carers and significant others.
* To work autonomously within professional practice guidelines.
* To identify and implement audit and research projects.
* Involvement in the training, continuing professional development and supervision of qualified staff, trainee clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists and other healthcare professionals.


Communication

* Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation, and treatment plans of service users under the care of the service.
* Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner with members of the team and other professionals.
* To use electronic methods of communication for the efficient transfer of information within the service, complying with Trust and national guidelines on the confidentiality of information.
* To develop and use complex multi‑media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.


Service Delivery and Improvement

* Work as a specialist clinician in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible clinical neuropsychology service, taking responsibility for implementing developments as agreed.
* Contribute as required to the planning and development of operational policies and delivery of services through agreed‑to project work.
* Identify and implement audit and research projects within the area served by the team.
* Participate fully in supporting the activities of the psychology profession within the trust, including attending relevant meetings.
* Support the professional development and knowledge of members of the interdisciplinary team through formal teaching, training and other appropriate learning activities related to neuropsychology.
* Contribute towards meeting the targets required to achieve University Hospitals Sussex objectives regarding clinical governance.
* Where appropriate, to provide teaching support to students of relevant clinical psychology courses.
* Where appropriate, to participate in the training and/or clinical supervision of other clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists and assistant psychologists, ensuring that the individual acquires the necessary skills, competencies and experience to provide an appropriate level of neuropsychological care.
* Where appropriate, to participate in the provision of clinical placements and supervision for trainee clinical psychologists, ensuring that trainees acquire the necessary skills, competencies and experience to contribute effectively to good neuropsychological care through the assessment and evaluation of such competencies.
* Where appropriate, to contribute to the specialist training of other healthcare professionals on issues of relevance.
* Where appropriate, to teach, advise and consult with carers and community groups.
* Where appropriate, to provide specialist consultation to non‑statutory organisations involved in the care of service users.


People Management and Development

* Where appropriate, manage the workload and take professional responsibility for psychology trainees and/or assistant psychologists within the team.
* Where appropriate, participate in the recruitment of other clinical psychologists and assistant psychologists.
* To work within the Code of Ethics and the relevant professional practice guidelines of the British Psychological Society, Health & Care Professions Council and the professional guidance framework of the Trust.
* To exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of your own practice.


Learning and Development

* Attend mandatory training updates as required.
* Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process.
* Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.
* Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager.
* Participate in the Trusts appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service.
* Participate in regular clinical and management supervision and appraisals and to maintain an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.
* Keep up to date with the CPD and continued registration requirements of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

* HCPC registration.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary: £55,690 to £62,682 a year (per annum, pro rata).
