PURPOSE OF ROLE
BBC News Brasil is seeking a Senior Journalist to join our award-winning London newsroom. You will play a key role in planning, producing, and coordinating impactful journalism in Portuguese for Brazilian audiences. This position requires editorial leadership, creativity, and a strong understanding of Brazilian issues. You'll help shape our coverage, ensure BBC standards, and collaborate with teams in London, São Paulo, and Brasília to deliver trusted, high-quality news across platforms.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Generate original story ideas and angles that make BBC News Brasil's journalism stand out in the Brazilian market
Ensure that all content produced complies with BBC values and editorial guidelines
Edit and sub stories in text and scripts for video and audio
React quickly to breaking news and help coordinate high-impact journalism across platforms (text, video, and audio)
Contribute to planning BBC News Brasil's overall coverage, in close collaboration with teams in São Paulo and Brasilia
Monitor audience metrics closely and help design strategies to grow reach and engagement
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
At least 10 years of relevant experience in a digital news operation, with a proven track record of delivering high-impact journalism under tight deadlines and in special projects
Experience coordinating teams, handling assignments, and subbing copy
Strong understanding of audience analytics, with experience using data to inform editorial decisions and grow reach
Demonstrated expertise in covering Brazilian issues, especially politics, economy, social issues, and health
Fluency in Brazilian Portuguese, both written and spoken
Full working proficiency in English
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Experience in scriptwriting and directing for video and audio is a plus
