An exciting opportunity has arisen to meet the growing portfolio of transport planning projects within one of the UK’s leading independent consultancies. PJA is a specialist design practice with an integrated approach to Transport, Placemaking and Engineering. Our holistic approach ensures both innovative and deliverable design solutions and supports our vision to create better places through good design.

The role will require working across a range of different projects although the focus will initially be on meeting our commitments on developing planning projects.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or above (Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography etc.) with significant experience in development led Transport Planning. They should have experience of delivering and project managing across a range of scales (depending on experience and role) with both public and private sector clients with only minimal supervision required. As a confident communicator verbally and in writing, they will be required to present and communicate their ideas clearly and concisely both internally and also to a wide range of external audiences. Chartership with a relevant professional body would be advantageous but not essential.

Skills

Depending on experience our ideal candidates will also have some, but not necessarily all, of the following alongside a willingness to learn and develop new skills:

Considerable experience in development focused transport planning Significant experience in the production of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans Significant experience of undertaking access feasibility studies and design Knowledge and experience of applying design guidance such as LTN 1/20, DMRB, Manual for Streets Knowledge of preliminary highway design and swept path assessment Strong technical background with knowledge of industry specific modelling software Knowledge of data analysis techniques, and experience in interrogation, analysis and presentation mindful of the needs of different audiences An excellent understanding of the planning process in England and experience of applying government policy and guidance to projects The ability to undertake focussed, problem solving tasks with an appropriate degree of independence to arrive at solutions to often complex challenges Excellent communication skills and interface with clients Ability to mentor manage and train junior staff Ability to contribute / lead on bids and financial proposals GIS Experience Excellent Project Management skills Strong technical background with experience of industry specific software (ideally including Junctions 9, Linsig, AutoCAD, ArcGIS)
