Business Unit
You will be based within a busy and fast‑paced project environment, working across our Scotland region within both rail and non‑rail civil engineering infrastructure. The business delivers a diverse portfolio of works covering asset management, renewals, maintenance and capital delivery for key clients including Network Rail, local authorities, energy providers and private developers.
Projects typically include:
* Roads, bridges and footbridges
* Rail structures, platforms and station assets
* Tunnels, underbridges and retaining walls
* Flood alleviation, coastal and environmental works
* Embankments, geotechnical and structures repairs
The Scotland region is currently delivering work through a number of long‑term frameworks and programmes, including Reactive Minor Works / maintenance, Capital Delivery civils frameworks, decarbonisation and enhancement schemes, and specialist asset management works. These frameworks provide a strong and stable pipeline of varied projects, offering excellent exposure to the full commercial lifecycle of infrastructure delivery.

The Role
As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, you will form an integral part of our expert commercial team within the Scotland Region. You will work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Senior Quantity Surveyors and the wider Commercial Management team, receiving day‑to‑day guidance, mentoring and structured training.
This role will enable you to develop a strong foundation in commercial and quantity surveying principles, supported by practical experience across live projects alongside your university studies. By the time you complete your degree apprenticeship, you will have both an accredited qualification and valuable hands‑on industry experience that sets you apart.
Your day‑to‑day activities may include:
* Assisting with subcontractor procurement, payments and liabilities
* Supporting cost value reconciliation (CVR) processes
* Producing and maintaining weekly commercial reports
* Creating and processing order requests
* Assisting with the preparation of final account packs, including for Network Rail
* Gathering, organising and issuing completion and commercial documentation
* Supporting the submission of estimates for client approval
* Assisting with data analysis, commercial reporting and record keeping
* Ensuring all commercial documentation is accurately filed and maintained
You will gain exposure to the full commercial lifecycle of infrastructure projects, building your competence and confidence as a developing Quantity Surveyor.

* Be willing to study part‑time towards a Degree Level Apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying
