Fire Suppression Test Engineer
Job Description:
We are seeking prospective candidates interested in becoming Test Engineers at BSI. This role offers diversity and variety across products and tasks, working within our testing labs. It is ideal for engineers looking to apply their technical skills in a client-focused environment. Success in this role requires the ability to build client relationships, understand their requirements, and deliver work independently.
Strong communication and project management skills are essential, as you will interact with clients at all levels, from technicians to Directors. Managing multiple projects and confidently presenting findings are key components. Suitable candidates may include fire detection/alarm engineers or those from related fire detection device manufacturing backgrounds.
Responsibilities:
* Liaise with clients and advise on work status to ensure excellent customer service and timely delivery.
* Respond to customer queries and provide technical support.
* Enhance technical skills to carry out testing across various laboratories, equipment, standards, and client requirements.
* Operate in accordance with quality and safety procedures, including ISO 17025 compliance.
* Conduct test work as per standards, procedures, or client needs.
* Maintain traceable records and results.
* Produce timely test and project reports.
* Coordinate with calibration department for equipment maintenance.
* Maintain good housekeeping in labs and offices, including electronic data storage.
* Report and escalate testing issues impacting performance or quality.
* Collaborate with colleagues, suppliers, and clients to ensure seamless service delivery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Minimum of BTEC/HNC/HND in engineering or equivalent industry experience.
* Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
* Customer-focused approach and teamwork skills.
* Proficient in MS Office or similar software.
* Solution-oriented with a positive attitude towards change.
* Strong time management and attention to detail.
* Familiarity with Lean tools and ISO 17025 is advantageous.
* Experience with fire detection system installation or fire suppression equipment testing is a plus.
What We Offer:
Basic salary up to £30,000 + Bonus, plus benefits including 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays, with potential to increase to 30 days), private medical insurance, pension scheme, and flexible benefits.
