Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Training Fellow post in Neonatal Medicine. This post is available to commence immediately for an initial period of 12 months. Based on satisfactory progression of candidate as assessed at 12 months, the post is extendable to a period of 2 years or can be made permanent.

This post will provide an excellent opportunity to further develop your skills in the Neonatal Department. This current post is 100% clinical commitment to the neonatal department.The postholder will work on the middle grade rota on a 1:10 neonatal rota (subject to change). The post holder will be working alongside other postgraduate doctors in training, clinical fellow, advanced neonatal nurse practitioners (covering purely neonatology) and neonatal consultants.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be supported by a resident junior tier doctor or Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (covering purely neonatology) and a neonatal consultant.This is an opportunity to gain tertiary experience in on the Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.The unit is a Lead Centre and Regional Intensive Care Unit within our newborn network, receiving referrals for tertiary intensive care, including, HFOV, NO and therapeutic hypothermia.

The birth population is 6,800 -7,000 deliveries per year. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a purpose built modern unit opened in 2009, providing 6 intensive care, 6 high dependency, 14 special care cots.The neonatal service is and active training unit and in conjunction with Keele Universities, the on-site Undergraduate Medical School opened in September 2002. We train all levels of trainees including neonatal grid posts.We are part of the Child Health Directorate, which is one of the largest in the country, with many paediatric sub specialties receiving tertiary care referrals, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and Community Paediatrics.Working for our organisationUniversity Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is one of the largest and most modern in the country.

Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria- MBBS or equivalent- Full GMC Registration- MRCPCH examination- NLS provider (Resus Council UK certified)Desirable criteria- APLS Provider- Safeguarding Level 3 Training- GIC course- APLS/NLS instructor- MRCPCH clinical examClinical ExperienceEssential criteria- Experience of working on the tier 1 rota for at least 6 months in a tertiary NICU in the UK- At least 24-months experience of working in general paediatrics and neonatology on the tier 1 rota in the UKDesirable criteria- Experience of working on the middle grade tier on the neonatal or general paediatric rota in UK- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionalsSkillsEssential criteria- Proven ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team- Ability to diagnose and manage common neonatal conditions organise and prioritise busy workloads effectively/ cope under pressure- Competence in common neonatal practical procedures- Highly motivated individual with commitment to pursuing career in paediatrics or neonatologyDesirable criteria- Evidence of engagement in clinical audit/ clinical governance- Evidence of management roles (academic or non-academic)- Evidence of engagement in research- Evidence of continuing professional developmentImportant information about your application1.
