Registered Nurse
Hours: 12-hour shift pattern, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays
Role Purpose
To provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care to service users with varying needs including support with daily living, personal care, and health promotion. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams. This post places the individual at the heart of decision-making processes to promote dignity, independence, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities / Service Delivery
* Deliver patient-focused nursing care ensuring safety, dignity, and respect.
* Administer medications, perform clinical observations, and carry out nursing procedures including venepuncture and ECGs.
* Develop and evaluate care plans based on individual needs.
* Support discharge planning and liaise with families/carers and wider healthcare teams.
* Take charge of the unit during shifts and oversee junior and support staff.
* Participate in clinical supervision and mandatory training.
Functional Duties
* Manage competing demands and deliver care effectively for a defined group of patients.
* Support individuals with activities of daily living and promote independence.
* Monitor vital signs and perform relevant clinical tasks including cannulation.
* Ensure all records are accurate, including nutritional and fluid intake charts.
* Identify safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately.
* Conduct risk assessments and contribute to care decisions.
Management Responsibilities
* Supervise and mentor Nurse Associates, Care Assistants, and student nurses.
* Manage the care home in the absence of the Lead Nurse or Registered Manager.
* Liaise with non-clinical teams including catering, laundry, and housekeeping to ensure comprehensive care delivery.
* Maintain professional competencies and adhere to NMC registration standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
* Collaborate with social workers, GPs, community nurses, and other agencies.
* Participate in induction and training of new staff.
* Share best practices and contribute to team learning and development.
Service Development
* Promote a safe and secure work environment following Health & Safety legislation.
* Support service improvement initiatives, including audits, policy updates, and action plans.
* Stay current with professional developments and share relevant insights with the team.
Person Specification/Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration (essential).
* Post-registration training in end-of-life care (desirable).
* Commitment to continuous professional development and clinical competency maintenance.
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience working with older people and delivering complex care.
* Knowledge of safeguarding, MCA, DOLS, and relevant legislation.
* Familiarity with audit processes and care quality improvement initiatives.
* Experience supervising staff and leading care delivery.
Skills & Abilities
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
* High level of IT literacy and ability to interpret clinical data.
* Skilled in mentoring, supervision, and clinical education.

Additional Information
* Direct Reports: 4–6 staff per shift
* Team Size (Care Home): Approx. 30 staff
* Responsible for Premises: Yes, in absence of senior management
* Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts covering 24/7 care, including weekends and holidays
* DBS Requirement: Enhanced DBS check required prior to appointment
