Substances Support Scotland (SSS) is a Scottish charity dedicated to reducing the harm caused by problematic Alcohol and Substance use. We provide information, support, and advocacy for individuals, families, and communities affected by substance use. Our vision is to improve the quality of life of people affected by alcohol-related problems, substance use, or adverse health and social wellbeing.
Our mission is to deliver equitable and accessible Scotland-wide services, including information, early intervention, psycho-social counselling, and recovery support. We work closely with partners to ensure people receive the right help at the right time.
Role Purpose
The Volunteer Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting SSS's mission by leading the recruitment, training, coordination, and retention of volunteers across our services. The postholder will develop and maintain a high-quality volunteer programme that aligns with SSS strategic priorities and supports safe, effective service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
· Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies.· Manage application, screening, and selection processes.· Conduct interviews and assess volunteer suitability.· Coordinate inductions and onboarding processes.
Training & Support
· Develop and deliver volunteer training programmes.· Provide supervision and ongoing support.
· Organise volunteer meetings and engagement events.· Ensure volunteers have access to resources and guidance.
Programme Management
· Match volunteers to appropriate roles.· Monitor performance and provide feedback.· Maintain accurate volunteer records and databases.· Evaluate programme effectiveness and recommend improvements.
Relationship Management
· Build positive relationships with volunteers.· Recognise and celebrate contributions.· Act as a key contact for volunteer queries.· Work collaboratively with staff to integrate volunteers.
Person Specification
Essential
· Experience in volunteer management or a related field.· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.· Strong organisational and time-management abilities.· Ability to work independently and within a team.· Proficiency in Microsoft Office.· Commitment to SSS values and mission.
Desirable
· Experience in the substance use sector.· Knowledge of volunteer management best practice.· Experience delivering training.
