Paediatric Dietetic Assistant

We are looking for the right person to join our team to support the delivery of excellent nutritional care. The successful applicant will become an essential member of the Paediatric Dietetic Team, supporting them to provide excellent nutritional care and advice for children across Tameside. This will include carrying out dietetic related tasks with children in clinics, their homes, by telephone, in schools and other care settings, as well as in hospital. The children we care for have a range of medical conditions and we support them with oral nutritional support and tube feeding. It also entails support of the dietetic service with maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, sharing responsibility for management of e‑mails and messages, and contributing to audit and service development work.
The successful candidate will have strong organisational and communication skills, a passion for delivering excellence, and will be a proactive team player.
Responsibilities
* Support families in carrying out dietetic interventions as assessed for and planned by the dietitian. Work independently under the supervision of a responsible practitioner and monitor and assess the child’s progress, modify treatment and report back to the dietitian as appropriate in homes, schools, playgroups, wards and other environments in Tameside and Glossop.
* Answer the telephone, take messages and deal with enquiries on behalf of the Paediatric Dietitians team and take the appropriate action.
* Deliver, issue, order and collect equipment and feed e.g. for tube‑fed children requiring feed deliveries at home or in the ward, keeping a stock of feed products.
* Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records in patient records and electronic systems in accordance with Trust and departmental policies.
* Analyse dietary intake and catering menus as required.
* Take a shared role in the general organisation of the department, contributing to managing team clinical and non‑clinical queries and supporting scheduling work.
