We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated person with initiative and drive. Our 0-19 service delivers high quality public health nursing, that promotes and improves health inequalities to children, young people and their families in Southend-On-Sea. You will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills, work with children and families to identify and support their health and development needs, have the ability to work autonomously and as part of an integrated skill mix team.


Main duties of the job

The qualified nursery nurse will workwith the Health Visiting team in partnership with other agencies to maximisethe health of children, families and the community delivering high quality andeffective community-based services that are responsive and ensure effectivehealth and social care outcomes.

Thepost holder will work with children, young people and families within the homeand within the Early Years settings, school and community setting as deemednecessary to support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme

Job responsibilities

Working under the supervision of thedelegating Health Visitor/practitioner to implement and follow-up plannedprogrammes of care for children and families.

To work positively with parentsand their children to ensure that effective, working relationships aredeveloped and maintained.

To manage and maintain ownworkload within a defined area, maintaining and planning to ensureprioritisation of needs under the supervision of the delegating practitioner.

Establish effective communicationand relationships with colleagues and other statutory, voluntary and communityorganisations.

Contribute to family health needsassessments and support the Health Visitor to develop comprehensive health careplans, in partnership with families and other professionals to meet theidentified needs of children and families.

In conjunction with thedelegating practitioner and families, implement episodes/packages of care. This will include general support andencouragement, breastfeeding support, healthy eating/feeding advice, introductionto solid foods for babies, safety and the establishment of clear parentingroutines, behaviour and play.

Encourage uptake of child healthservices and support attendance to local health services and other agenciessignposting families when necessary to other community-based services.

In conjunction with the Health Visitor,actively contribute to behaviour management plans for children with challengingbehaviours, working with parents/carers and children to implement and evaluatethe plan.

To work within the context of theHealthy Child Programme, as led by the Health Visitor.

To work in partnership withchildrens centres, including delivering health provision within the centres.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* NNEB, NVQ level 3 with significant post qualification experience


Other Qualifications

* Current Full UK Driving Licence and Car
* A committed, enthusiastic person who can demonstrate good team working and autonomy
* Skilled in managing and prioritising own allocated caseload
* Flexibility in working hours and environment.


Experience

* Demonstrate experience of working with children and families.
* Effective communication skills, oral and written
* Ability to work independently and with a team.
* Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise.
* Good assessment skills
* Experience and knowledge of current recommendations of diet and nutrition for babies, toddlers, and children.
* Experience in delivering evidenced based advice and guidance in behavioural support for families
* Knowledge of Postnatal Depression Management and tools utilised such as the Whooley/PHQ9
* Skills or potential to facilitate groups
* Experience with working within the community and/or homes
* Experience of working with or within childrens centres.
* Experience of Systm1
* Ability to support families and children in their decision making skills.
* Teaching and presenting skills.


Knowledge and skills

* Knowledge and/or experience of current Public Health issues.
* Understands and adheres to the need for confidentiality.
* Knowledge of appropriate development milestones and tools used such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire
* Knowledge of healthy diet and nutrition for babies, toddlers, and young children
* Knowledge of safeguarding and signs of abuse and neglect

£29,064 to £32,597 a yearPro rata, depending on experience
