Join to apply for the Senior Automation Engineer role at Peacock Technology Limited (formerly IceRobotics).
Location: Bellshill, Scotland (with travel to customer sites and Stirling office)
Department: Operations
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
At Peacock Technology Ltd., we develop intelligent robotics and AI-powered vision systems transforming modern dairy farming. Our mission is to improve animal welfare and farm efficiency through innovative automation.
From advanced robotic udder care systems to computer vision solutions, we deliver real-world impact. As demand grows, we’re expanding our team. If you’re passionate about engineering and want your work to make a tangible difference for farmers, animals, and the planet, this is your opportunity.
The Role
Senior Automation Engineer: a proactive, hands-on automation expert to lead the next generation of our robotic systems. You’ll own robotic and PLC control software, collaborating with the Operations and Technical Services teams. You’ll translate customer, distributor, and internal feedback into system improvements that form part of our ongoing release programme.
This role combines strategic design and practical fieldwork—from early-stage requirements through commissioning and real-world testing. Expect time on farms, collaborating with users of our technology daily.
You’ll play a key role in delivering systems like our IDS Pre-Brush and Post-Spray robots, which promote udder hygiene and animal wellbeing.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Lead the design and evolution of robotic and PLC-based control systems
* Develop, test, and refine control architectures (PLC, SCADA, robotics)
* Gather requirements and translate them into clear, practical engineering plans
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver full project cycles—from concept to installation
* Engage with customers and suppliers to ensure designs meet operational needs
* Create high-quality documentation and technical proposals
* Support, mentor, and share knowledge with junior engineers
* Take part in on-site commissioning, testing, and field upgrades (UK and international)
What We’re Looking For
We know that great engineers come from diverse backgrounds. If you’re enthusiastic, capable, and motivated by real-world problem-solving, we want to hear from you.
Essential
* Degree or higher qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation)
* 3+ years\' experience in automation or robotic engineering
* Strong experience in PLC programming and control systems (ideally structured text or ladder logic)
* Solid grasp of electrical principles and DC control circuits
* Confident working hands-on with machinery and test rigs
* Willing to travel to farms and get stuck in with on-site testing
* Full driving licence and passport
Desirable
* Experience with KUKA robotic systems
* Experience with Beckhoff (TwinCAT) platforms
* Familiarity with pneumatic systems
* Field commissioning and troubleshooting experience
Personal Qualities
* Passionate about engineering: You take pride in building things that work reliably and efficiently
* Practical and solution-focused: You enjoy solving real-world challenges, not just theoretical ones
* Collaborative: You enjoy working as part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team
* Customer-aware: You care about how people use your systems and how they can be improved
* Detail-oriented: You don’t cut corners – you deliver quality
* Self-motivated: You take initiative and see projects through

* Work with a tight-knit team of experts in robotics, automation, and AI
* Be part of a purpose-driven company making a real-world impact on animal welfare
* Collaborate across disciplines on exciting, challenging projects
* Travel across the UK and internationally
* Flexible working environment
* Clear progression opportunities as we continue to grow
