Head of Communications – UK & Europe
6-month Fixed Term Contract- Possibly to extend / become permanent
Location: Hook / London / Solihull (hybrid)
Serco delivers essential public services on behalf of governments across the UK and globally. Operating across defence, justice, transport, health and citizen services, we work in complex, high-profile environments where clarity, credibility and confidence in our communications matter.
We are seeking an experienced Head of Communications to join Serco UK & Europe on a 6-month Fixed Term Contract (with potential to become permanent), providing senior leadership across integrated internal and external communications at a pivotal point for the business. This is a visible, influential role, partnering closely with executive leaders to ensure Serco's story is clear, consistent and compelling — to our people, our customers and the wider market.
As Head of Communications, you will set and deliver the communications agenda across UK & Europe, aligned to Serco's People and Growth strategies. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will shape narratives that drive engagement internally and build credibility, trust and reputation externally.
This role suits a confident, accomplished communicator with strong storytelling instincts — someone who can quickly grasp complex issues, identify what matters, and translate it into content that cuts through.
What you'll be doing
• Lead the delivery of integrated internal and external communications strategies across UK & Europe
• Act as a senior communications advisor to the Group CEO, Executive Committee and Divisional leadership teams
• Translate business priorities, change initiatives and growth objectives into clear, aligned narratives

• Partner with HR and senior leaders on change, culture and employee engagement communications
• Own and evolve core internal channels, including intranet, town halls, events and leadership communications
• Lead internal communications during sensitive or crisis situations, working closely with Media Relations
• Drive executive messaging and thought leadership across key external channels
• Shape and prioritise Serco's thought leadership agenda, informed by market insight and sector trends
• Work closely with Marketing and Brand to ensure consistency of tone, voice and messaging
• Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing communications team
What you'll bring
• Senior experience across internal and external communications in a B2B or professional services environment
• Excellent writing and editing skills, with the credibility to shape executive-level messaging
• Strong storytelling capability, able to simplify complexity without losing substance
• Proven experience advising and influencing C-suite and executive-level stakeholders
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing communications teams
• Strong experience managing crisis and sensitive communications
• Confidence operating in complex, matrix organisations with sound judgement and discretion
What we offer
• A competitive SLT level base salary
• A car allowance
• 10% contributory pension
• PMI for you and a partner
• A range of Serco corporate benefits
• An opportunity to shape communications within a large, complex, purpose driven organisation
