An exciting new opportunity for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our busy Endoscopy team, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
Our Endoscopy Service is purpose-built to support elective outpatient and acute inpatient Endoscopic procedures, with facilities to undertake x-ray guided endoscopy.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in accordance with the NMC Code, the Trust's vision and values, and our Behavioural Framework.
Your main responsibilities will include working as a senior member of the nurse team alongside Staff Nurses, Nurse Associates, Healthcare Assistants, Endoscopists, Consultants, and specialty nursing teams, delivering high-level care to patients in all areas of the Unit. This role requires a high level of technical capability and a passion for problem-solving. It can be physically and mentally demanding but is very rewarding for the right candidate.
Duties include:
1. Providing leadership support to colleagues
2. Ensuring staffing levels and skill mix to ensure the safe delivery of care, and patient safety at all times
3. Coordinating clinical activities, staff allocation, and managing patient flow within the department
4. Shift management responsibilities - taking direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of, or as delegated by, the Senior Endoscopy Sister
5. Carrying out appraisals and development reviews for team members
6. Managing sickness absence
7. Complaint management and incident reporting reviews
8. Completing audits
9. Participating in recruitment, selection, and training of new staff
10. Participating in and training for the 24-hour on-call bleed rota
The ideal candidate will have NMC registration, at least two years of post-registration Endoscopy experience, knowledge of JAG and BSG guidelines, and high-level verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of quality improvement and principles of change management is also essential.
