Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to join the Hepatology clinical nurse specialist team. The successful candidate will take the nursing lead in coordinating the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance programme for the Humber and North Yorkshire (HANY) region. This involves collaborative work within the Humber Health Partnership, York & Scarborough teaching hospitals, and the Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance. Liver cancer is the fastest-rising cause of cancer-related deaths in the UK, with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) being the most common form, comprising 85% of all liver cancers. We seek a confident nurse to lead the service, engage patients for surveillance attendance, create and manage a registry, and coordinate patient care.
Main duties of the job
* Implement, maintain, and develop the HCC surveillance registry for identified patients under Hepatology services.
* Develop protocols and pathways for HCC surveillance to streamline regional care.
* Engage proactively with patients to improve attendance at surveillance appointments, aligning with national targets.
* Collect and submit data to the cancer alliance.
* Line manage band 4 care navigators within the HCC surveillance service.
* Collaborate with Hepatology services across the region.
* Create patient information materials to enhance understanding of HCC surveillance.

Person Specification
* Experience (Essential): At least 5 years' post-basic clinical experience, including 1 year supervising qualified nurses; CPD in liver/gastroenterology; change management skills; understanding of national nursing priorities and evidence-based practice.
* Desirable: Presentations/publications, audit experience, staff management, advanced clinical skills, research governance knowledge.
* Qualifications (Essential): First-level registered nurse, degree or equivalent, current registration, CPD evidence, 2 years post-registration gastroenterology experience, teaching qualification.
* Desirable: Post-registration qualifications, postgraduate degrees, non-medical prescribing, Master's/MPhil, research GCP training.
* Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (Essential): Advanced communication, clinical judgment, time management, training development, patient interaction skills, IT proficiency, clinical decision-making, data analysis, and report creation.
* Desirable: Cannulation, Phlebotomy, Fibroscan skills.
