Orthopaedic physiotherapy operates as 7 day working and will require weekend working of 1 in 5. Time off in lieu is given the following week. If You Are a physiotherapy assistant with hospital inpatient experience Wish to work as part of the busy physiotherapy Orthopaedic team Are interested in assisting physiotherapists in the assessment, rehabilitation and onward signposting and referral of patients following admission to the orthopaedic wards. Main duties of the job To work under the indirect supervision of Physiotherapists in providing a high standard physiotherapy service on the Orthopaedic Wards, Day Surgery and pre-operation department. After a period of training to work with a specified caseload, with no direct supervision of a Physiotherapist. To participate in continued personal development and other departmental activities. After a period of time in post to deliver specific training to physiotherapy assistants and new technicians and assist the physiotherapist in training other non-qualified health care staff on the Orthopaedic unit. Frimley Health Trust benefits on Vimeo Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities After a period of training to be responsible unsupervised for implementing the standards and policies relevant to the speciality working within codes of practice and professional guidelines. Within specific guidelines and following training to be solely responsible and accountable for a clinical case load working within codes of practice and professional guidelines. This includes patient documentation in both professional and medical notes and monthly statistical work sheets. After a period of training to be solely responsible for the primary assessment of pre and post-operative patients according to the guidelines on both the orthopaedic and day surgery unit. After a period of training the clinical role may include: Provision of walking aids and instruct patients in their use, Checking the condition of walking aids/other equipment, Identifying the need for and fitting cricket pad splints and ROM braces. Provision and progression of an appropriate treatment plan to include exercises and mobility aids Fitting of orthotics once provided by a Physiotherapist Teaching and supervision of exercises, Checking patients ability to manage stairs prior to discharge, Applying cryotherapy Set up continuous passive motion (CPM) machine and instruct patient in the use. After receiving instruction from the physiotherapist, to teach and supervise exercises and mobility on those patients who required initial assessment by the qualified physiotherapist. Please see the detailed job description attached for further information Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria GCSE or equivalent qualification Understanding of: confidentiality, health and safety, clinical governance and some medical conditions Experience Essential criteria To have had experience working as a physiotherapy assistant in relevant specialty To have worked as part of a team Skills & Knowledge Essential criteria Effective verbal and written communication IT literate Organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload Previous experience working in environment with general public Desirable criteria Ability to present information to a small group Knowledge of IT systems designed for clinical use Teaching skills Specific clinical assistant skills in area of specialty Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) has an outstanding reputation and a proud record of achievement.
