Vision for Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced Behaviour Support Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis for a pupil with Autism who displays challenging behaviour in an SEN Primary School in Southam on a full-time basis. About the role: Provide tailored support to a pupil with Autism/ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, who is active and can display challenging behaviour. Assist in delivering Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or personalised support plans, working closely with the class teacher to track progress and adjust strategies where necessary. Promote the pupil’s independence, confidence, and social development through consistent encouragement and support. Support classroom learning by assisting with tasks, preparing resources, and maintaining relevant records when required. Contribute to creating a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment for all pupils. This is a full-time position with the potential to become ongoing for the right candidate. About the school: A primary school environment serving pupils aged 5–11, with a strong focus on supporting children with additional needs. The provision addresses a variety of needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Autism/ADHD, non-verbal and supporting challenging behaviour. The school provides a learning environment where resources and activities are consistently accessible for pupils to explore and engage with. This encourages self-directed learning, helping children build independence and decision-making skills while still maintaining a structured framework for more focused teaching sessions. Language development is a key priority, with speech and language therapy embedded into the school day. This provision is particularly valuable for pupils with communication difficulties or those requiring additional support with literacy and language development. About you: Experience working with primary-aged pupils, particularly those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and challenging behaviour. Knowledge or understanding of conditions such as Autism, ADHD, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent when supporting pupils who may display challenging or distressed behaviour. Strong behaviour management skills, with the ability to use positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies.A caring, empathetic, and supportive approach, with a genuine commitment to helping children succeed. Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents to support the child’s development. Confidence in working both independently and as part of a wider classroom or support team.Good communication and organisational skills, including the ability to record and report on pupil progress or incidents when required. Flexibility and resilience to adapt to the needs of the pupil and the classroom environment. Relevant qualifications or training in education, childcare, or SEN support are desirable but not always essential. Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
