 
        
        Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
Lead the development and maintenance of the Environment Agency’s electrical engineering standards, ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable assets that support the organisation’s net‑zero commitments.
Responsibilities
 * Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including high‑ and low‑voltage systems and control systems.
 * Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation.
 * Assist in developing competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems.
 * Hold a national incident response role, which may require work outside normal hours.
 * Collaborate with the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering team to shape future service delivery.
 * Support the safe delivery of assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures, and monitoring sites.
Qualifications
 * Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
 * Good working knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
 * Knowledge of high‑ and low‑voltage generation and distribution systems.
 * Experience in the development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
 * Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
 * Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
 * Experience drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
 * Excellent work‑management, team‑working and communication skills.
Other Requirements
 * UK driving licence.
 * Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of work toward registration within 12 months.
