About the Role
Sunderland City Council has an exciting opportunity for two highly motivated and experienced Council Tax & Business Rates Operations Managers to support the delivery of the Council’s Revenues section.
Responsibilities
These positions will ensure sound and robust leadership and management of the Council Tax Recovery, Business Rates, Reviews and Enforcement Teams and will provide specialist technical advice and guidance to the Council ensuring working practices are integrated across all service areas to improve service delivery.
The successful candidates will have a proven track record of delivering these types of services to a high standard, as well as having the ability to build effective relationships with our partners and communities.
They will also be able to demonstrate the ability to continually develop and review service delivery plans and the allocation of resources to deliver key objectives with a commitment to service excellence, continuous improvement and value for money, including the development and use of technology in frontline services whilst working within budgetary boundaries.
They will also ensure the effective and efficient administration of all discounts and exemptions in relation to Council Tax and Business Rates, identify business critical events such as the annual billing runs and debt recovery annual timetables.
Part of their role will be to deputise for the Revenues Manager as and when required.
This is a very busy and vibrant team dealing with both internal and external customers. You will be required to have excellent interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal and have excellent literacy, numeracy and customer service skills.
You need to be confident at managing people and navigating challenging conversations and situations.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a formal professional management qualification relevant to Council Tax and Business Rates or significant relevant experience; you should also be able to demonstrate continued professional development.
We will be looking for someone with a proven track record at senior level management, and an in depth understanding of the challenges facing Council Tax and Business Rates.
