Piccadilly Construction, our in-house Construction Management Team, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer/Assistant Buyer to assist with purchasing and procurement. This role requires supporting the Procurement Manager in buying activities related to our construction and maintenance projects.
* Negotiate supply chain arrangements with key materials suppliers.
* Develop long-term relationships with suppliers to maximize economies of scale.
* Schedule and place material and plant orders, optimizing for cost and quality.
* Check architects'/engineers' drawings for discrepancies and compliance with material specifications; resolve queries with relevant consultants/architects.
* Produce material cost schedules and budgets for new projects; monitor costs to prevent budget overruns.
* Create schedules for material enquiries, send to suppliers, and assess quotations and schedules for accuracy.
* Report and project material cost increases as they occur.
* Resolve invoice queries with the accounts team.
* Conduct on-site material checks and produce reports.
* Visit sites regularly to ensure supply/material issues are addressed.
* Negotiate with suppliers and raise orders for the wider business, including property maintenance, sales, and marketing, where strategic procurement adds value.
* Maintain effective relationships to ensure successful project delivery with stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, in-house teams, consultants, and advisors.
* Perform other duties as required.
About You:
* Understanding of construction industry procurement processes.
* Experience in effective buying functions within construction.
* Knowledge of the materials supply chain.
* Skills:
* A proactive, positive, and commercially minded approach, with the ability to work efficiently at pace.
* Excellent financial and numerical skills, including budgeting and cash flow management.
* Strong planning and prioritization skills.
* Ability to control and manage costs.
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in buying within a construction company.
