Description

The job itself

Are you an experienced social work practitioner ready for a role that influences practice, culture, and outcomes for children and families? East Riding of Yorkshire Council is expanding our Quality of Practice Team and we’re looking for two passionate and skilled Advanced Practitioners to join us on a 12‑month fixed term basis.

This is an opportunity to step into a role where you can champion high‑quality, relational family help and social work practice, and help shape the future of services for children, young people, and their networks.

As we continue our improvement journey, your work will directly influence our ambition to embed strengths‑based, relational practice at every level. You will play a key role in implementing our Quality of Practice Framework, delivering reflective space activities (audits), and translating what you learn to contribute to meaningful service development.

Your focus will centre on children in need and our Families First Partnership Programme, ensuring that practice is consistent, reflective, and aligned with the needs of children and families.

This is an ideal opportunity for practitioners seeking a change, who are passionate about high quality family help and social work practice, and those who want to be part of ensuring that our services improve outcomes for children and their families.

About Us

We are proud to be rated a ‘Good’ Local Authority, committed to creating the conditions where excellent social work and exceptional leadership can thrive. We offer a learning culture, strong practice vision, and opportunities for practitioners to grow through innovative roles that broaden their expertise and impact. With national reforms shaping the future of children’s services, there has never been a more exciting time to be part of this journey.

The Role

As a Quality of Practice Practitioner, you will:

1. Provide high‑quality, relational and reflective discussions with practitioners across family help and social work teams, celebrating strengths and helping shape more impactful interventions.
2. Carry out detailed quality assurance activities that look beyond performance data to understand the lived experience of children.
3. Gather insight from electronic systems, practitioners, and children and families to build a full picture of practice quality.
4. Analyse themes and patterns and report your findings to the Quality of Practice Manager as part of a continuous cycle of learning and improvement.
5. Ensure practice aligns with our local authority standards and contributes to our ambition for consistently excellent social work.

This is a role where your expertise influences outcomes, supporting practitioners while shaping future service delivery. We are looking for experienced social work practitioners with a passion for strengths-based approaches and relational practice, and a commitment to securing good outcomes for children, young people, and their network by adopting reflective practices.

This is a fixed-term position for twelve months, to provide assurance and oversight in relation to family help and social work practice, particularly for children in need, as we continue to develop services in line with the social care reforms.

What We Are Looking For

6. A recognised social work qualification or equivalent (CSS CQSW, Dip SW)
7. Extensive experience within relevant social work services and a strong understanding of legislation, safeguarding, and early help frameworks.
8. Excellent communication (oral and written), coaching and analytical skills.
9. The ability to work autonomously, reflectively, and with a strong values base.
10. Experience of quality assurance, reflective auditing and identifying themes.
11. Experience of preparing reports and recommendations.

Why Join Us

12. A competitive salary and benefits package.
13. Opportunities for professional development and career progression.
14. A supportive and inclusive work environment.
15. The chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families across East Riding.

If you are an enthusiastic, adaptable social worker with a commitment to excellence, we would love to hear from you. Join us in our mission to provide excellent family help and social work to our children and families in the East Riding.
