Applications are invited for a Consultant to join the Geriatric Medicine Department within Cardiff and Vale UHB working alongside Consultant Geriatrician colleagues. This post is part-time, working 6 sessions per week. The appointee will have a sub-specialty interest in peri-operative medicine in older people undergoing Surgery. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services. Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview. Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee. Main duties of the job Working alongside Geriatrician, A/E, surgical, orthogeriatric and wider specialist nursing and MDT colleagues, the post holder will deliver a consultative hands-on and remote input to a wide range of older people who present to the Emergency Unit and admitted to surgical wards requiring initial assessment and ongoing in-patient care with a POPs approach. The second part of the post offers a novel opportunity to further develop a POPs model in Cardiff and Vale UHB working with the lead geriatrician in the surgical department alongside specialist nurses and wider MDT members. You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £55,033 per annum to £71,447 per annum plus a further £16,003 per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.
