Advanced Nurse Practitioner – SACT and AOS, Fixed-Term (12-months)

Join to apply for the Advanced Nurse Practitioner – SACT and AOS, Fixed-Term (12-months) role at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our Acute Oncology Service (AOS) and Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) team. With support from experienced nursing and medical mentors, the postholder will work autonomously across the Private Patients Medical Day Unit at Cavendish Square and the AOS team at Chelsea.

This dynamic role includes advanced assessments of patients receiving SACT and those acutely unwell with oncological complications. The ANP will perform pre-treatment reviews, take histories, perform examinations, request and interpret investigations (e.g. bloods, imaging), and prescribe SACT and supportive care.

Within AOS, the ANP plays a key role in early recognition and management of acute deterioration, delivering timely interventions to prevent unplanned admissions and support safe discharge. The role enhances patient outcomes through rapid assessment and continuity of care.

The Royal Marsden operates across two main centres—Chelsea and Sutton—as well as a Private Diagnostics and Treatment Centre at Cavendish Square. This post offers a unique opportunity to work across both the Private Patients Medical Day Unit and the Acute Oncology Service (AOS), delivering expert care within two highly specialised environments.

The role is well-supported by an established team of ANPs and Specialist Doctors, fostering strong collaborative practice within a multidisciplinary setting. The successful candidate will contribute to service development, patient flow, and pathway optimisation across both sites, ensuring patients receive timely, safe, and effective care.

As part of this role, the ANP will be involved in complex decision-making, early escalation of complications, and coordination of care for patients undergoing cancer treatment. The post also provides opportunities to contribute to audit, teaching, and quality improvement initiatives aligned with national frameworks such as ACCEND and AOS measures. This is a progressive and influential role for an experienced or aspiring ANP looking to shape advanced practice in oncology and acute care.

Please note: This post is offered in line with NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions, including access to the NHS Pension Scheme and a comprehensive range of staff benefits.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is a world-leading cancer centre. Our role is to offer our patients the best cancer care available anywhere in the world, and to continue to make a global contribution to finding better ways of diagnosing and treating cancer. We employ over 4,500 staff in a diverse range of careers including nursing, medical, science, radiography, pharmacy, occupational therapy, finance and administrative services. We have two hospitals – one in Chelsea, London, and one in Sutton, Surrey – as well as a Medical Daycare Unit in Kingston Hospital.
