The Buckinghamshire Integrated respiratory service (BIRS) has an exciting opportunity within its service. We are looking for a dynamic allied healthcare professional or nurse with a keen interest in respiratory medicine who would like to join the BIRS team for 12 months to cover maternity leave
The post holder may be expected to support other service pathway within the acute, community setting and outpatient setting, using highly developed specialist practice underpinned by theoretical knowledge/respiratory qualifications.
Staff will be trained to be a specialist resource of information for health and social care staff, patients, families, carers, and external agencies who may require advice and support, and guidance in the management of respiratory conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma and other respiratory disease.
Main duties of the job
1. Act as a credible, visible role model for all junior nursing and allied healthcare professional staff.
2. To actively participate in MDT meetings raising and discussing concerns and actively seeking acceptable and best outcomes solutions for the patients. Ensuring that patients’ and relatives’ views are always heard and considered.
3. To support the department team in resolving clinical and operational issues on a shift-by-shift basis whilst ensuring that best practice nursing care is delivered.
4. To work in collaboration with the department manager to establish a cleanliness culture across the department ensuring that the patient environment is well-maintained, clean, and safe.
5. To work with the department manager, the Infection Prevention Control Team, and the domestic support team to ensure adherence to cleaning contracts is maintained and monitored ensuring that any issues are escalated in a timely manner.
6. The post holder will need to maintain and supervise junior members of staff in ensuring that the nursing care delivered to all patients is established on an individual assessment, it is planned evidence based care, it is documented that it is implemented and it is evaluated as to effectiveness.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
17. Registered RN (adult)/ AHP
18. Degree in related field (or equivalent experience)
19. Relevant post registration experience
Desirable criteria
20. Completion of appropriate management and leadership programme
21. Teaching and Assessment recognised qualification
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential criteria
22. Advanced Diagnostic and Clinical Assessment Skills Module
23. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the holistic needs of the client group
Desirable criteria
24. Knowledge awareness of recent NHS policies / DH agenda
Experience
Essential criteria
25. Significant experience at a Band 5/6 nursing level within a related field
26. Previous experience in teaching, coaching, mentoring
27. Evidence of participation in audit, research and development of staff
28. Proven ability to utilise word, power point and excel to a level of producing documents, reports
29. Post registration experience working with respiratory patients
30. Demonstrates ability to develop new initiatives
31. Demonstrates ability to adapt to change
Special circumstances
Essential criteria
32. The post holder will be required to work across all sites and will be required to travel between the sites in a timely manner.
PPE requirements: Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust requires all colleagues to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with our infection prevention and control procedures.
