What is the job role?
As a Housing Options Officer, you’ll be responsible for supporting the Council to carry out homelessness duties under The Housing Act, as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act. In this fast-paced service area, you will need to be creative, adaptable, and hardworking in order to prevent homelessness and provide excellent case management services to our customers.
The main duties of this role include:
1. Completing assessments with customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness
2. Making decisions in line with homelessness legislation and communicating to applicants in writing
3. Mediating between applicants and landlords
4. Working on a rota basis to cover front-line homelessness functions
5. Providing advice, guidance and signposting
We are recruiting two fixed-term, 12-month positions to cover maternity leave.
All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as such, appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
Previous experience working within the Housing, Homelessness, Voluntary, and Advisory sectors is desirable but not essential. We are also keen to receive applications from candidates with lived experience of homelessness.
The Housing & Homelessness Service transitioned to remote working. We are currently implementing a hybrid model, which involves a mix of home and office working.
