To work as part of the Alcohol Care Team to provide holistic, non-judgmental care to patients presenting to hospital.
Main duties of the job
* Reduce average length of stay, Accident and Emergency attendances, and hospital admissions of people with alcohol-related problems.
* Communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, carers, and the public.
* Be an integral member of the Alcohol Care Team, providing assessment, treatment, and interventions.
* Be flexible to meet the needs of complex patients and demonstrate knowledge and passion.
* Provide brief interventions, harm reduction, psychosocial interventions, and motivational interviewing.
* Screen consenting patients for liver conditions using Transient Elastography and blood tests, following guidance.
* Demonstrate professional curiosity and deliver non-judgmental care.
* Attend multidisciplinary meetings, including safeguarding review meetings.
* Support friends and families of patients.
* Make accurate assessments of risk and act appropriately.
* Be aware of your limitations and practice within your competence.
* Make appropriate referrals to various services.
* Keep clear, accurate, and timely records.
* Comply with the Trust's vision, values, and behavioral compact.
* Work as a team and seek senior advice when necessary.
* Contribute to reducing hospital admissions, length of stay, and ED attendances for those with alcohol use disorder.
* Advocate for patients while maintaining professional relationships.

* Advocate for reducing stigma associated with substance use disorders.
* Establish and maintain links with teams such as Gastroenterology, A&E, Mental Health, Community Substance Use, Social Services, Police, and Housing.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience in communication within the MDT.
* Awareness of safeguarding procedures.
* Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders.
Additional Requirements
* Evidence of experience in direct patient contact.
