Overview
Nursing Support Worker, Band 3 on St Non Ward, an Older Adult Mental Health Ward in Haverfordwest. The successful applicant will have experience of working in an acute assessment in-patient setting and will demonstrate dynamic and innovative practice for the care of older adults with complex mental health needs. The Nursing Support Worker is a vital part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to the patients' assessment and treatment pathway and working under the guidance of registered nurses. The role involves a range of interventions including direct nursing care, adherence to observation and engagement policies, monitoring physical health and supporting the assessment process to enable holistic care for the patient. Interviews are scheduled for 17/10/2025.
Successful applicants will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and must be able to work flexibly to meet service needs within a 24 hour a day, 365 day a year shift system including nights.
Main duties
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients experiencing mental health needs in community/home settings or inpatient services, with support and supervision provided by a registered healthcare professional.
* Undertake or support personal care activities, daily living skills/tasks and clinical care duties with minimal supervision as delegated by a registered healthcare professional in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
* Support enhanced observation of patients who present as high risk to themselves or others due to mental health, cognitive or clinical conditions.
* Keep the registered healthcare professional regularly updated on the patient’s condition and progress.
* Ensure the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes.
* Contribute to teaching and supervision of students and junior staff.
* Deliver care in line with Health Board/Trust Values and the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales, including maintaining physical, procedural and relational security.
* Welsh language ability is desirable for this post; applications from English and Welsh speakers are welcome.
Qualifications and criteria
Essential
* Level 3 qualification in a healthcare-related subject or equivalent experience with work-based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge and the ability to undertake clinical care duties, gained through experience and training.
* Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW).
* Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting (e.g., safeguarding adults/children, confidentiality and GDPR).
* Ability to complete certified/accredited physical intervention training (e.g., Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression) during induction.
Desirable
* Certified/accredited physical intervention training (PMVA).
* Experience of working within the NHS and in relevant health or social care environments, including direct patient care.
* Experience with patient groups relevant to the area of practice.
* Welsh Language Skills Level 1.
