Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic Occupational Therapy team at Surrey Heath Community Mental Health Recovery Service. The postholder may be required to work within all surrounding community services as needed. We are committed to delivering innovative ways of providing Occupational Therapy in Community Mental Health Recovery Services.


Responsibilities

* Deliver both individual and group occupational therapy interventions with a clear care pathway (50% of the role).
* Contribute to care coordination/lead professional responsibilities (50% of the role) for people with occupational needs.
* Provide group interventions including the following established programmes:
o Occupation Matters Programme – an award-winning 20-week group utilising Lifestyle Redesign principles.
o Recovery through Occupation – a 6-week group using the Re-Motivation process to improve motivation and social skills.
o New Horizons – the occupational therapy led discharge pathway to support a smooth transition from secondary services.
o Individual occupational therapy.
o Comprehensive occupational therapy assessments.
* Use the Model of Human Occupation to guide all assessments and interventions, with a focus on embedding occupational science and neuroscience into practice.
* Work within a robust CPD framework, including supervision, care group meetings, Trust-wide and core competence training, and annual conference.
* Provide supervision and mentoring to more junior occupational therapists, apprenticeships, support workers and activities coordinators (as appropriate) and contribute to student placements.
* Contribute to service development and audits and take on the role of lead professional as appropriate.


Qualifications and experience

* Provide high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy assessments and interventions (group and individual) to people accessing services and their carers/supporters/family, in line with occupational therapy pathways.
* Communicate effectively with people who access services, carers, the multidisciplinary team and, when appropriate, outside agencies.
* Contribute to the generic functioning of the team.
* Supervise and mentor more junior staff and support workers as appropriate.
* Provide occupational therapy student placements.
* Contribute to service development and audits.
* Take on the role of lead professional as appropriate.


Practice framework and CPD

We use the Model of Human Occupation to guide all assessments and interventions, and we are focused on embedding occupational science and neuroscience into our practice. The occupational therapy leadership team offers extensive, coordinated CPD programmes, including supervision structures, care group meetings, Trust-wide and core competence training, and an annual conference.


Employment details

The post constitutes a 50% delivery of Occupational Therapy interventions and a 50% care coordination/lead professional role for people with occupational needs.
