Senior Accountant Financial Management – NHS Borders

About The Role
As a Senior Accountant within Financial Management, you will play an important role in providing high‑quality, accurate and timely financial information to support decision‑making across the organisation. The role covers a broad and varied remit, including monthly financial reporting, analysis of expenditure and trends, forecasting the Board’s financial position, and supporting budget setting and budgetary control.
You will contribute to the preparation of statutory financial information, including elements of the Annual Accounts process, and ensure that financial activity is reported in line with governance requirements, policies and national guidance. The role also involves providing clear and professional financial advice to non‑financial colleagues, helping them to understand financial information and manage resources effectively.
In addition, you will support the day‑to‑day delivery of the service through supervision and development of staff, contributing to a positive team culture and a continuous improvement approach within Finance.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, accurate and timely financial information to support decision‑making.
* Prepare monthly financial reports, analyse expenditure and trends.
* Forecast the Board’s financial position and support budget setting and budgetary control.
* Prepare statutory financial information, including elements of the Annual Accounts process.
* Provide clear financial advice to non‑financial colleagues.
* Supervise and develop staff, fostering a positive team culture and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
* Professionally qualified accountant (CCAB).
* Solid experience in financial management, reporting and forecasting within a complex organisation.
* Strong analytical skills, ability to handle detailed financial information and explain it clearly.
* Proactive, adaptable, capable of managing competing priorities and responding positively to change.
* Experience in the NHS or wider public sector desirable but not essential.
* Strong transferable skills and interest in working in a healthcare setting are welcome.
