Overview
Applications are invited for a Consultant Cellular Pathologist to join a mutually supportive and committed team of 8 pathologists. This post offers the opportunity to practice pathology to a high standard with supportive colleagues in an area with an enviable quality of life, with close links to Cardiff and the Welsh Coast and Countryside.
The post would suit either a first-time consultant looking to develop within an innovative team or an established consultant histopathologist wishing to relocate. Main duties
We work closely with clinical colleagues within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and provide a wide range of cellular pathology services with a broad workload. This includes specimens from dermatology, gynaecology, head and neck, lung, breast and gastrointestinal tracts, including bowel screening specimens. The appointee will contribute to developing a wide-ranging cellular pathology service across primary, secondary and tertiary care colleagues. There are opportunities to participate in coronial autopsy for all Consultants (optional in the current job plan).
The Health Board has cancer unit status for breast, colorectal, lung, upper GI, urology, gynaecology, head and neck and skin. Workload is shared according to RCPath workload points, and the appointee will be encouraged to develop a specialist interest to complement the existing team. The department has a strong immunohistochemistry service and a lead Pathologist for Molecular Pathology, working closely with The All Wales Genomics service. The department actively participates in teaching and training of medical and laboratory staff.

Qualifications and Eligibility — Essential
* FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
* Full and specialist GMC registration (or eligible for registration within six months) with a licence to practise
* UK trained applicants must be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within six months of award; non-UK trained applicants must show evidence of UK CCT equivalence
Skills and Abilities — Essential
* Proven leadership skills and a responsible attitude
* Commitment to provision of a strong clinically oriented service
* Interest in teaching and training medical and non-medical staff
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
* Good organisational skills, ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workload
* Able to work on own initiative and within a team
Desirable
* Welsh language skills (Level 3 and above / B2) are desirable
Knowledge and Experience — Essential
* Broad knowledge of Histopathology, Gynae and Non-Gynae Cytopathology
* Experience with audit and/or quality improvement in the last 18 months
* Experience teaching undergraduates/postgraduates
Desirable
* Previous NHS or equivalent healthcare system experience
