Mechanical Team Leader
Location: Sellafield, Seascale, Cumbria, UK – CA20 1PG. Working hours: 38 hours per week.
Job Overview
The Mechanical Team Leader will operate within the Hard Services team as the first point of contact for both the client and team members. The role requires a proactive approach to customer care and the effective handling of day‑to‑day tasks relating to delivery, quality, and health & safety.
Main Duties
* Proactively manage client queries, providing feedback and escalating issues where appropriate.
* Ensure all planned and reactive works are scheduled, delivered, and updated through Archibus in line with contractual and customer requirements.
* Lead stakeholder discussions to determine and agree appropriate Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), preparing all documentation in accordance with legislative, client, and Mitie requirements.
* Ensure robust pre‑job briefs, supervision arrangements, workface inspections, quality assurance and Lessons Learned processes are embedded into team operations.
* Take a proactive approach to Work in Progress (WIP), including progress updates, issue resolution, forecasting, escalation, and completion.
* Work with the planning team to schedule all planned and reactive tasks, ensuring efficient resource utilisation and optimum performance.
* Report all incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions at the earliest opportunity.
* Deliver regular team briefs and maintain active engagement with the workforce, escalating any issues as required.
* Conduct workforce audits and assurance checks at the workface.
* Attend and actively participate in training, appraisal, and development activities.
* Coach, mentor and support team members to develop their full potential, including guidance through Sellafield nomination processes.
* Support management and supervisory teams with reasonable requests and undertake additional duties commensurate with role capability.
Experience Required
* NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Maintenance and Installation, or equivalent.
* Ability to liaise effectively with client representatives and management teams.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate work and collaborate with operational teams.
* Good general knowledge of facilities services and operational practices.
* Solid understanding of nuclear site procedures and operational standards.
* Previous Team Leader or Supervisory experience is advantageous.
Additional Skills
* IOSH Managing Safely certificate.
* Full, clean UK driving licence.
* Strong coordination and facilitation skills.
* Effective time‑management skills.
* Computer literacy (desirable).
