Consultant Paediatrician

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, now part of University Hospital Tees, invites applications for a Consultant Paediatrician to join our dynamic paediatrics department working across two sites – Middlesbrough and Northallerton. Applications from general paediatricians with a specialist interest in epilepsy, and other special interests that complement the department’s needs, are strongly encouraged. All Consultants will work across both sites and enjoy a variety of opportunities.
Main duties of the job
Our large secondary‑care centre in the Tees Valley area offers acute, community and specialist care for children in Middlesbrough, Redcar and Northallerton. We provide a broad range of specialist treatments, including cardiology, diabetes, epilepsy, cystic fibrosis, asthma, paediatric endocrine, allergies, gastroenterology and comprehensive community paediatric services. We operate six commissioned level‑2 HDU beds and are a member of the North East Paediatric Critical Care Network.
The department hosts trainees across all levels of training, covering tier‑1 and tier‑2 rotas, including foundation doctors, general practice training, military GP trainee and specialist trainees rotating across the Northern Deanery. We actively deliver the undergraduate education programme for medical students at the universities of Newcastle and Hull.

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, MRCPCH (or equivalent) and either be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) for paediatrics at the time of interview. The successful candidate will be appointed under the current terms and conditions of service for NHS Consultants. Full consideration will be given to applicants who wish to apply for a reduced/part‑time contract.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Full GMC registration
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* Evidence of specialist registration or within 6 months of expected registration
* APLS or EPLS provider
* A higher qualification
* Management course for clinicians
* Relevant CCT or equivalent
Experience
* General paediatric experience in both secondary and tertiary care
* Experience supervising junior medical staff
* Evidence of clinical skills to fulfill the general elements of this job
* Experience managing paediatric epilepsy or another special interest that complements the department’s needs
* Experience managing paediatric patients in an MDT setting
* Team‑working outside of work (e.g., community or professional activities)
* 6/12 months experience in PICU during training
* Teaching experience
Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of and training in child protection
* Knowledge of legislation relating to child health
* Evidence of clinical audit
* Good leadership skills
