Team Leader – Track Maintenance Inspections: Keep the Railway on Track!
Location: Eastleigh, GB (actual base will be Fareham after building refurbishment)
Hours: Full‑Time
Shift Pattern: Days, Nights, Weekends, unsocial hours (safety Critical)
Salary: Starting from IMC20 £38,716 + Location Allowance or Standard Maintenance Contract £45,669 + Location Allowance
About the Role
We’re looking for proactive, safety‑focused leaders to join our Track Maintenance team. In this role you will direct, organise and motivate a high‑performing crew responsible for inspecting, faulting, maintaining and renewing track infrastructure—the foundation of a safe and reliable railway network. You will lead by example, drive safety and performance, and create a positive team culture. You will manage safety arrangements, ensure staff and contractors follow safe systems of work, control quality and competence, keep assets fully compliant, and compile critical reports for stakeholders.
Essential Criteria
* Experience of organising and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work
* Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing
* Knowledge of discipline‑specific maintenance, inspection, faulting and renewal techniques
* Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions
* A clear and inspirational leader with a strong sense of direction
* Experience in the delivery of heavy track maintenance activities and/or track refurbishments
* Hold Safety Critical Competencies COSS and COSS CRP
* Hold Technical Competency Tr04 (Restore track geometry by Manual Repair)
* Hold Technical Competency Tr11 (Confirm the track is fit for operational purposes following maintenance repair)
Desirable Criteria
* Hold or be working towards an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience
* Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need, which may include driving vehicles up to 7.5t and upgrading their driving licence by undertaking additional training
* Hold Safety Critical Competencies Level B Strapping and NSCD Operator
* Hold Safety Critical Competency Engineering Supervisor
Additional Information
The role involves days, nights and weekend working and is a safety‑critical role, subject to drug and alcohol testing and the relevant medical assessment.
