Join the team tackling Racelogic's most technically demanding engineering challenges.
At Racelogic, we design and manufacture industry-leading performance measurement, positioning and simulation solutions used by automotive OEMs, motorsport teams, aerospace innovators and technology pioneers around the world.
From VBOX data logging and vehicle dynamics systems to advanced GNSS simulation with LabSat, our products sit at the heart of mission-critical development and validation programmes. Engineers rely on our technology to test, validate and refine next-generation mobility systems with absolute confidence.
Headquartered in Buckingham, UK, Racelogic operates globally with offices in the US, France and Germany. With over 135 employees and customers in more than 100 countries, we combine deep automotive expertise with cutting-edge RF, GNSS and software capability to solve complex engineering challenges.
As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a Special Projects Engineer to develop advanced concepts, prove technical feasibility, and deliver working prototypes that shape future products.
The Role
The Special Projects Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for tackling Racelogic's most challenging and high-impact engineering problems. The role focuses on developing advanced concepts, proving technical feasibility, and delivering working prototypes that validate new technologies, architectures, and product directions.
This position sits within the engineering function but operates with a high degree of autonomy. The Special Projects Engineer takes loosely defined ideas or complex technical challenges and turns them into demonstrable, high-performance systems. The role spans electronics, embedded firmware, software and system-level integration, requiring strong cross-disciplinary capability.
This role suits an exceptional engineer who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys solving technically demanding problems, and is motivated by creating tangible, working solutions rather than managing people. The Special Projects Engineer plays a critical role in de-risking future products and expanding Racelogic's technical capability.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Concept Development
* Take abstract ideas, emerging requirements, or technically complex challenges and develop viable engineering approaches.
* Architect and implement proof-of-concept systems to validate feasibility and performance.
* Identify risks, constraints, and trade-offs early in the development cycle.
* Provide clear technical recommendations based on evidence and experimentation.
Electronics and Embedded Systems Design
* Design electronic systems, including schematic design, component selection, and architecture definition.
* Develop embedded firmware where required to support prototype functionality and system validation.
* Integrate hardware and firmware into cohesive working systems.
* Evaluate new technologies, components, and approaches for suitability within Racelogic products.
Prototyping and Experimental Development
* Rapidly develop, iterate, and refine prototypes.
* Define and execute appropriate validation and stress testing.
* Analyse system-level performance and identify improvements.
* Produce working demonstrators that clearly prove technical capability.
Cross-functional Technical Influence
* Work closely with hardware, software, mechanical, test, and production teams to ensure concepts are transferable into product development.
* Support the transition of validated concepts into formal engineering projects.
* Provide deep technical insight during early-stage product definition discussions.
* Act as a trusted technical reference for complex or novel engineering problems.
Technical Exploration and Capability Growth
* Investigate emerging technologies and assess relevance to Racelogic's product portfolio.
* Contribute to longer-term technical direction and capability development.
* Raise the technical bar through high-quality engineering practice and problem-solving.
* Any other duties as required.
About You
* Degree in Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
* Extensive experience in electronic hardware design and embedded firmware development.
* Strong system-level understanding of hardware-firmware integration.
* Proven ability to develop working prototypes from early-stage or ambiguous requirements.
* Deep practical experience in debugging complex electronic and embedded systems.
* Experience working across analogue and digital electronics.
* Experience developing embedded firmware (e.g. C/C++ on microcontrollers or similar platforms).
* Comfortable operating independently with minimal direction.
* Strong analytical thinking combined with practical implementation skills.
* Clear communicator capable of articulating complex technical concepts.
* Highly motivated, self-directed, and driven by technical challenge.
