The Gynaecology Directorate is looking to appoint 2 full-time Consultant Subspecialist in Gynaecology Oncology.

The successful candidate will join the Oncology Team which consists of a Subspecialist Gynaecology Oncologist, Oncology Unit Level Lead, and a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists. The Oncology service is a specialist Tertiary Centre and currently provide services at Wolverhampton and Dudley.

The candidate will be expected to be an active member of the Gynaecological oncology team in clinic, the ward and operating theatres. Participation in the (oncall) Gynaecology rota is expected. Evidence of experience in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques and supra-radical surgery in Gynaecological oncology would be highly desirable. The post will have 10 programmed activities (PAs) but further PAs are negotiable.


Main duties of the job

* Provide Clinical Consultations for Oncology Patients at Wolverhampton and at our Tertiary Centers.
* Provide Surgical interventions for complex Oncology Cases.
* Partake in MDT Meetings.
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in Gynaecological Oncology.
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department. This includes being on-call for telephone advice and major incidents.
* With the existing Consultants, to maintain the department's regional reputation as the leading provider for robotic surgery in Gynaecology Oncology.

Job description


Job responsibilities

* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in Gynaecological Oncology.
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department. This includes being on-call for telephone advice and major incidents.
* To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.
* With the existing Consultants, to maintain the departments regional reputation as the leading provider for robotic surgery in Gynaecology oncology.
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
* To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for and devote time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff.


Person Specification


Educational Qualifications


Essential

* Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.
* On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of interview
* MRCOG
* Completed subspecialty training accreditation in Gynaecological oncology or equivalent training.


Desirable

* Higher Medical Degree


Experience


Essential

* Competent in managing complex Gynaecological Oncology cases including open and MAS approaches


Desirable

* Experience in robotic surgery


Research and Audit


Essential

* Evidence of audit/research and the implementation of change following the audit


Desirable

* Relevant research published in peer review journal


Education and Teaching


Essential
* Evidence of contributing to departmental teaching programmes
