Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Therapy Assistant Practitioner to work full-time within our Elective Orthopaedic team at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. This Band 4 post is an integral role within the therapy team, and by working closely with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, will help to ensure an optimum and seamless patient experience for orthopaedic patients. The role includes both in-patient and day surgery work, with some independent work on protocol-driven pathways under supervision.
As a Band 4 you will work generically, providing high quality care through effective teamwork and will follow through treatment plans from admission to discharge. The team strives to provide high quality care and think innovatively to improve the service delivered. The post holder will review patients pre- and post-operatively and carry out initial assessments of patient ability and needs, and will be able to discharge plan with the correct follow-up on discharge from hospital. The therapy team is involved in service development and the post holder will participate in new projects, service developments and initiatives to ensure best practice at all times.
Regular supervision is available. There is regular in-service training provided by therapies and other MDT members, with an opportunity to enrol on the apprenticeship scheme to develop clinical skills further. External training opportunities may also be applied for as appropriate.
Responsibilities
* Provide high quality, generic care as part of the therapy team and follow through treatment plans from admission to discharge.
* Assist and support physiotherapists and occupational therapists in the Elective Orthopaedic team and work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Review patients pre- and post-operatively; carry out initial assessments of ability and needs; discharge planning with appropriate follow-up.
* Work on in-patient and day surgery pathways, with some independent work on protocol-driven pathways under supervision.
* Contribute to service development, new projects, and initiatives to ensure best practice at all times.
Requirements and Development
* Essential communication: ability to converse easily in English for customer-facing roles.
* Background in therapy support or equivalent; ability to discharge plan with appropriate follow-up.
* Compliance with Trust policies on DBS and safeguarding; posts working with children or vulnerable adults require an enhanced check.
* UK Visas and Immigration eligibility criteria for sponsorship where applicable.
* No-smoking policy on all Trust sites and grounds.
