Murphy are currently recruiting for a Principal Design Engineer to join our award-winning team. The Principal Design Engineer will provide safe, practical, and economic designs for internal clients to a high standard of professional competence and in compliance with Company procedures.

Covering a range of industry sectors including water, energy, and power; Murphy Applied Engineering provides specialist engineering support in the following disciplines: Mechanical, Geotechnical, Process, Surveying and both Permanent and Temporary works within Civil and Structural infrastructure.

A day in the life of a Murphy Principal Engineer:
* Responsibleforthedaytodaymanagementanddevelopmentofateamofengineers
* Responsibleforthedeliveryofalltechnicaldrawingsandreportsforthedetaileddesignphaseoflinearinfrastructureprojects(steeltransmissionpipelines&plasticductsforHVcables)
* Responsiblefordeliveryofconstructabilityreportsassociatedwithlinearinfrastructureprojects
* ResponsiblefordeliveryPre-FEEDandFEEDstudiesassociatedwithmajorpipeline/HVpowercableinfrastructureprojectsintheUK,
* TechnicalsupporttoplannersandestimatorsduringFEEDstudies
* Checkingandapprovingoftechnicaldesignreports
* Projectreportingandcoordinationofdesignactivitieswithintheengineeringteam
* Representthedesigndepartment,whennecessary,atinternalandexternalmeetings
* Undertakesitevisitswhenrequired,
* Accuraterecordingoftimespentonprojectsandmanagementofteamworkloads,
* Coachandmentorindividualstaffmemberswithprofessionaldevelopment,
* Supportthebidteamswithtechnicalinputintotendersubmissions&developdesignestimatesforinclusionintheoverallsubmission
* TechnicalinputintoTrenchlessCrossingDesigns(HDD’s,Microtunnels&AugerBores)

* FamiliarwithUKandinternationalstandardsforplasticpipes
* Construction&designexperienceassociatedwithlinearinfrastructureprojects&trenchlesscrossingdesigns
* ExperienceundertakingPre-FEED,FEED&detaileddesignassociatedwithmajorlinearinfrastructureprojectsintheUKaspartofthegovernmentsnetzerotargetsfor2050.
* Experienceofconsentrequirementsassociatedwithrail(NWRFormA,B&C),road(CD622)andwatercoursecrossings(EA)ispreferred
* Knowledgeandunderstandingofconstructionplant&equipmentusedtoinstallsteelpipelinesandplasticcableducts,
* FamiliarwithgeospatialanalysissoftwaresuchasArcGISorQGIS
* Excellenttechnicalreportwritingskills,
* SomeawarenessandunderstandingofenvironmentalrestrictionsintheUK.
