Overview
The Head of Mechanical Services is responsible for leading and managing all mechanical engineering operations across the organisation. This includes oversight of HVAC, plumbing and other mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. The role requires strategic leadership, strong technical expertise, and effective team management to ensure systems are safe, efficient, and aligned with organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Leadership and Strategy Develop and implement the mechanical services strategy in line with overall organisational objectives.
* People and Performance Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team, fostering a culture of performance, safety, and continuous improvement.
* Capital Projects and Planning Provide expert input into capital projects, renovations, and technical infrastructure planning.
* Technical Oversight Ensure the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems meet current codes, standards, and best practices.
* Systems Upgrades Oversee the assessment and upgrade of existing mechanical systems for performance and sustainability.
* Testing and Handover Ensure appropriate testing, commissioning, and handover procedures are in place for all new mechanical systems.
* Compliance Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and health and safety requirements.
* Documentation Maintain accurate documentation and records in accordance with legal and industry standards.
* Audits Lead audits and inspections related to mechanical systems.
* Budget and Contracts Develop and manage budgets for mechanical services, including capital expenditures and operational costs. Procure and manage service contracts, suppliers, and consultants to support mechanical infrastructure.
* Cost Management Identify cost-saving opportunities and deliver projects within scope, time, and budget.
Qualifications and Experience
* HNC / HND in Mechanical Services or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
* Minimum 8–10 years of experience in mechanical services, including leadership roles.
* In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems design, installation, and maintenance.
* Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, CIBSE, ISO, local building regulations).
* Experience in healthcare, data centers, or commercial real estate.
* Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
* Strong knowledge of sustainability and energy efficiency practices.
