We are seeking to recruit a Locum GP as a maternity cover for a minimum of six months at a highly successful 14,000 patient practice in Dorking starting at the end of November 2025.

Working pattern is six sessions a week working:

* Tuesday morning and afternoon
* Wednesday afternoon and evening session
* Friday morning and afternoon

Our friendly team is committed to providing excellent patient care through the use of innovative tech and workflow management processes. We free up GPs to focus on clinical work with the support of highly trained multi-disciplinary teams.

With mentorship, support, in-house learning and development, GPs are encouraged to reach their potential.Our locality has multiple leadership opportunities and you will be encouraged and supported to develop specialist interests and portfolio diversification.

The post-holder will manage a patient list and deal with awide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the higheststandards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Medwyn Surgeryis a well-established GP practice located in the heart of Dorking, Surrey, serving a growing patient population of over 14,000. Our mission is to deliver the highest standard of primary healthcare, encompassing not only medical treatment but also comprehensive health information, community engagement, and fostering strong doctor-patient relationships.

Operating from the purpose-built Medwyn Centre on Reigate Road, our facility, completed in 2006, offers a modern and accessible environment for both patients and staff. The Centre houses a range of services, including Medwyn Surgery, physiotherapy and podiatry services, community health staff, conference and meeting facilities, a pharmacy, audiometry services, and a variety of services provided by sessional medical practitioners.

The Centre is fully accessible, featuring step-free access, wheelchair-friendly facilities, an induction loop, and a disabled toilet. Additional amenities include CCTV for security, comfort cooling, and automated check-in and patient calling systems, all contributing to a comfortable and efficient healthcare environment.

Medwyn Surgery offers a full range of Enhanced Services to our patients, ensuring comprehensive care that meets the diverse needs of our community. We provide Improved Access appointments every weekday evening and on Saturdays, accommodating patients who require flexibility in scheduling their healthcare visits.


Job responsibilities

Overall Purpose: to provide NHS personal medical services toregistered patients on the Practice list.

Job Summary:

The post-holder will manage a patient list and deal with awide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the higheststandards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

ClinicalResponsibilities:

* In accordance with the Practice timetable, asagreed, the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a varietyof duties including surgery consultations, telephone and video consultationsand queries, checking and signing of repeat prescriptions and dealing withqueries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
* Respond to medical problems presented bytemporary residents as required.
* Making professional, autonomous decisions inrelation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from otherhealth care workers within the organisation.
* Assessing the health care needs of patients withundifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
* Screening patients for disease risk factors andearly signs of illness.
* In consultation with patients and in line withcurrent Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans.
* To assist in the establishment of appropriatesystems to manage common chronic medical conditions.
* Completion of clinically related administrativeand non-clinical duties needed for the delivery of the service.
* Providing counselling and health education.
* Refer patients for further opinions andinterventions according to Practice protocols
* Recording clear and contemporaneous consultationnotes to agreed standards.
* Compiling and issuing computer-generated acuteand repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whereverpossible).
* Prescribing in accordance with the Practiceprescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.
* Participate in training plans of medicalstudents as required.
* In general the post-holder will be expected toundertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GPworking within primary care.

Maintaining,monitoring and updating computer database and management of medical records andpractice audits

* Ensure that practice clinical database isupdated promptly and accurately with information relating to patient records,as required for clinical accuracy and for practice recording requirements underQOF and Enhanced Services.
* Appropriate use of read codes.
* Participating in the collection and collation ofstatistics towards the preparation of practice reports, performance monitoringand audits
* Participating in the auditing of practiceactivity

Practice Organisation

* Process and action incoming patient and hospitalcorrespondence
* Attendance at in-house meetings, significantevent audit meetings and others as deemed necessary
* Ensure that the practice complaints system isadhered to at all times
* Awareness and compliance with all relevantguidelines e.g. data protection, confidentiality and health and safety
* Maintain current CPR and anaphylaxiscertification

In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust uswith, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their healthand other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect thatstaff will respect their privacy and act appropriately

In the performance of the duties outlined in this jobdescription, the post-holder may have access to confidential informationrelating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcareworkers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as abusiness organization. All such information from any source is to be regardedas strictly confidential

Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, otherhealthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged toauthorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and proceduresrelating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

Health & Safety

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintainingtheir own and others health, safety and security as defined in the PracticeHealth & Safety Policy, to include:

* Providing information regarding immune consentwith particular regard to Hepatitis B status
* Identifying the risk involved in work activitiesand undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
* Using appropriate infection control proceduresparticularly those relating to needlestick injuries, maintaining work areas ina tidy and safe way and free from hazards
* Ensuring that all accident or dangerousaccidents are reported and investigated, and follow up action taken wherenecessary.

Safeguarding

The post-holder must show commitment to safeguarding andpromoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Thesuccessful candidate will be expected to follow safeguarding policies, completeappropriate safeguarding training and undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Full GMC registration
* Performers List registration
* Evidence of current validation
* Eligibility to practice in the UK independently


Experience

* Minimum of two years as a GP
* Experience of providing home visits
* Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of own clinical practice
* General understanding of the primary care contract
* An appreciation of the NHS landscape and relationship between individual organisations, PCNs and the commissioners


Clinical Knowledge and Skills

* Outstanding level of clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with that of an experienced GP
* Understanding the importance of evidence-based practice
* Good MS Office and clinical system IT knowledge
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral) including recording of accurate clinical notes
* Ability to both work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to GP colleagues
* Experience of triage and the ability to effectively assess and diagnose
* Understanding of the spectrum of clinical governance
* Experience with clinical risk management
* Ability to listen whilst being honest and caring, and be both sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations
* Understanding of the local pathology tests processes and the ability to process the results, advising patients accordingly
* Assess and manage acute deteriorations/exacerbations of Long-Term Conditions
* Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
* Understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice
* Effective time management (planning, organising and prioritising) with excellent problem solving and analytical skills
