Overview
Our Senior Greenkeeper plays a key role in our senior Agronomy Team ensuring that our operational programs for golf course set up and maintenance are carried out to the highest of standards. Your duties will vary throughout the year to maintain the health and appearance of the course. People are our priority; you will work closely and proactively communicate with other team members, you have the desire to support your team in this friendly and stimulating environment, working with others to achieve the overall business objectives as well as helping junior staff learn and develop.

Early starts before sunrise are essential to prepare the course before our golfing guests arrive with daily tasks assigned by the Course Superintendent. You take an active role in morning planning meetings & help support the team during course set up. Daily inspection of each part of the course, checking for any damage caused from adverse weather conditions or animals, including marking hazards, grounds for repair. Daily walk mowing of creeping bent grass greens & approaches. Precision mowing of our Fairways, Tees and Rough - all completed using specialised machinery. Conduct effective turf maintenance schedules and programmes, maximising the course efficiency.
You are involved in all aspects of golf course & practice facility set up including but not limited to, bunker preparations, tee set up, divoting & dew removal. Working with senior & junior team members during set up to ensure smooth operational excellence; always being proactive & positive.
You ensure all work is carried out to the high standards associated with a DLC Club. Support with irrigation and drainage system operations. Identify any weeds, pests or disease you come across, making sure that this is reported to the senior Agronomy team. You navigate mobile applications to report and record tasks. Good written, verbal, and interpersonal and computer skills are essential with a natural ability to interact with all levels of staff and management. Survey, collect and maintain accurate records of the course condition; maintenance activities; treatments performed and the observed growth patterns.
Use the Workday platform to record hours, view work schedules and manage team scheduling. Maintain the tools and equipment inventory ensuring they are well maintained, serviced and used in accordance with safety protocols with parts or replacements ordered as required; with faults, defects, risks and hazards reported. Action and maintain all associated RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements), COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and MDS (Model Development Specifications).
Prepare the machines for use and support the development of junior team members’ knowledge by sharing your expertise. Communicate information to team members, management and golfers in accordance with the golf course maintenance policy, the health and safety policy and the Greenkeepers Code of Conduct.
Apply treatments as necessary to prevent or address fertility, diseases and pests as discussed with senior management. Respond promptly to emergency situations such as fallen trees that block access or pose immediate hazards, and clear debris to restore access by prioritising safety. Execute a safe working environment and culture by complying with health and safety, and other compliance requirements throughout the Golf course and garden areas including use of personal protective equipment, tools, machinery, fertilisers, chemicals and safe working practices. Utilise specialised equipment such as chainsaws & sprayers (depending on qualification level). We do the right thing, ensure all waste is managed in accordance with Scottish Waste Regulations.

Each day is different and you can be based at various locations throughout the estate. You will need good physical fitness and stamina to perform tasks requiring heavy lifting and physical exertion as well as working in challenging terrain in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and wind.

Previous experience in a similar role or environment would be a distinct advantage. To be successful you will have a genuine interest and knowledge of the game as well as the desire to learn and develop in your career. An up-to-date knowledge of Health and Safety and COSHH regulations.
The ability to work under pressure to juggle competing priorities with minimum supervision. You can adapt accordingly to suit the profile of the business and can adjust working days and hours of work to meet business needs, as and when required and during emergencies or busy seasons.
* You hold an NVQ Level 3 or above in Greenkeeping and Sports Turf Management.
* Any vocational qualifications including PA1, PA2 and PA6A spraying certificates.
* Proficiency in operating chainsaws would be an advantage.
* A full UK driving license is essential.
