* Salary: £41,511 - £44,711
* Location: Sheffield (This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office)

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and to serve the communities and businesses of South Yorkshire. Please note that SYMCA follows a structured salary grading system for all roles, and the offered salary for each post will be at the starting point within the specified grade. Key Responsibilities

As a Programme Officer you will have experience of working in a programme management environment, providing advice and guidance to officers. You will support the implementation of a robust, high-quality, and consistent approach to programme management across SYMCA. Acting as a point of contact between internal teams, external delivery agents, and compliance functions, you will provide support and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

This role is vital to the success of our investment programmes. You will work closely with the Programme Managers to support internal and external delivery agents in developing and delivering critical initiatives across the South Yorkshire region.

Your work will directly contribute to the achievement of strategic outcomes and the long-term prosperity of the region.

Key responsibilities include:
* Support the management of a portfolio of projects and programmes, addressing issues and escalating concerns where necessary.
* Support the implementation of SYMCA’s programme management framework to ensure standardised delivery.
* Monitor programme progress, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
* Support delivery agents in developing high-quality, deliverable business cases.
* Collaborate with assurance and reporting teams to ensure governance milestones are achieved.
* Contribute to programme reviews and reporting for senior stakeholders.
* Support the preparation of reports for senior managers, directors, and boards.



Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will have experience of working in a programme management environment along with experience in providing advice and guidance to senior offices. You will also be able to demonstrate key skills that enable the development of positive and successful relationships and connections as well as with the ability to balance competing demands and prioritise tasks effectively, excellent inter-personal skills flexible and adaptable approach to work, with a proactive problem-solving attitude

Desirable Skills & Knowledge:
* Knowledge of programme planning and monitoring systems.
* Experience of programme development and/or delivery, ideally in areas such as Transport, Business Growth, or Housing.
* Proven ability to work across organisational boundaries and with external stakeholders.
* Skilled in communication, negotiation, and influencing at all levels.
* Knowledge of PRINCE2, MSP, or similar project management methodologies is desirable.
* Experience working in a political or public sector environment.
* Familiarity with the funding landscape of Combined Authorities.
