Job Summary
Band 7 Occupational Therapy Team Lead – Surgery & Orthopaedics (fixed‑term, 12 months covering maternity leave) at Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.
We are seeking a skilled, forward‑thinking occupational therapist with specialist inpatient orthopaedic and surgery experience and a strong leadership background.
About the Role
Operate across elective and trauma orthopaedics, general surgery, urology and ENT inpatient areas, and outpatient pre‑op hip & knee schools. Provide high‑quality occupational therapy services and lead the OT team.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as occupational therapy clinical expert in Orthopaedics & Surgery (Elective, Trauma, ENT, Urology & Gynae).
* Operational management and clinical leadership of the OT team in collaboration with the Professional Lead.
* Provide specialist support and advice to OT team and other healthcare staff, and manage own caseload of highly complex patients as an autonomous practitioner.
* Ensure a high‑quality and effective occupational therapy service.
* Contribute to planning and policy development as a member of the OT Department Management team.
* Deputise for the Professional Lead as required.

Person Specification
Essential
Experience
* Proven leadership experience.
* Experience at Band 6 or above in relevant area of practice.
* Evidence of specialist clinical skills in practice.
* Experience in performance management.
* Experience in managing/supervising staff and students.
Knowledge
* Highly specialist knowledge of OT within Orthopaedics and/or Surgery.
* Knowledge of current issues and policy relating to field of practice.
* Registered OT with HCPC.
Desirable
Experience
* Experience in managing complex team issues.
* Band 7 level experience in relevant area of practice.
Knowledge
* Attendance at specialist courses relating to OT within Orthopaedics and/or Surgery.
* Completion of relevant QI projects.
* Evidence of CPD.
