OUR VALUES IN ACTION

• Care and Compassion • Quality and Teamwork • Dignity and Respect • Openness, honesty and responsibility

An opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team at NHS Borders.

Applicants must be registered with HCPC and have extensive post-registration experience working in a diagnostic Microbiology Lab. An MSc or Higher Specialist Diploma is essential; however, applicants without these qualifications will be considered and, if successful, will be contractually obliged to complete the qualification within 4 years.

The successful applicant must be motivated with good leadership qualities, organizational and practical abilities supported by scientific knowledge, well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to support individual and team working. Evidence of continued professional development and knowledge of current developments within the Microbiology field are required.

On completion of competency, you will be required to participate in a 7-day shift pattern: 8am - 8pm Monday – Friday & 8am-5pm weekends.

The Borders General Hospital is located in a beautiful rural setting with a train link to Edinburgh within walking distance.

In-person interviews will be held on-site on 29th September 2025.

For additional information or to arrange a visit to the department, please contact Susan Johnston or Keira McAllister at 01896 826258, or Caroline Thompson at 01896 826226 or via email at caroline.thompson@nhs.scot.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check than currently. If the post is assessed as a 'regulated role', your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Any changes to the requirements will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team. For more details, visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.

To work in the UK, individuals must demonstrate they have the relevant permission to work, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service.

As part of pre-employment checks, NHS Scotland Boards will verify your entitlement to work in the UK, which can be evidenced through various routes including visas and EU settled status. More information is available at GOV.UK.

For certain posts, if you lack the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa may be possible, provided the employer is a licensed sponsor and the salary meets the required thresholds. Further details can be found at here.

It is ESSENTIAL to verify that you already have the appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post can be sponsored before submitting your application.

**PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept late applications; please submit early.**

NHS Scotland is committed to promoting equality and diversity, and eliminating discrimination. We encourage applications from all sections of society.
