Specialist Physiotherapist – MSK Paediatrics

Job Summary
Part‑time, 15‑month fixed‑term contract (or secondment) for a Band 7 Paediatric Physiotherapist. The role is based at Luton and Dunstable Hospital and involves managing a busy paediatric MSK physiotherapy caseload, supervising technical instructors, students and Band 6 physiotherapists, and working independently within a specialist team.
Main Duties
* Provide specialist physiotherapy to acute MSK paediatric outpatients.
* Develop, evaluate and lead the paediatric MSK service in liaison with the Lead Clinical Specialist.
* Perform advanced assessment of children with complex physical and psychological conditions and design individualised treatment programmes.
* Supervise, educate and assess physiotherapy students on placement.
* Plan and conduct evidence‑based audits and research projects to improve service delivery.
* Seek clinical peer support and evaluate performance through appropriate networks.
Qualifications
* Degree or diploma in physiotherapy.
* Evidence of relevant CPD and postgraduate learning in paediatrics.
* Membership of the HCPC and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
Experience
* Several years’ paediatric experience at Band 6 or above.
* Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
* NHS experience.
* Experience of clinical audit and service evaluation.
Knowledge
* Specialist knowledge of a broad range of paediatric conditions and paediatric physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques.
* Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for service delivery.
* Ability to translate theory into practice.
Communication
* Excellent verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
* Ability to pass on knowledge to others and present information clearly.
* Capability to overcome communication barriers.
Desirable
* Leadership training, membership of a special interest group, or clinical educator training.
* Development of protocols and guidelines.
* Experience working with outside agencies or in a committee.
* Awareness of local and national paediatric agendas and service improvement techniques.
Other Requirements
* Suitable Disclosure and Barring Service check.
* UK professional registration (HCPC/CSP).
* Skilled worker sponsorship will be considered where applicable.
Compensation and Contract
* Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 per year pro rata.
* Contract: Fixed term, 15 months.
* Working pattern: Part‑time.
