Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist to join our West Sussex Care Delivery Service. The post is based at Linwood, Haywards Heath, West Sussex which forms part of our newly formed Mid Sussex Neighbourhood Mental Health team (NMHT). West Sussex Community services are divided into two main areas: North West Sussex and Coastal Sussex. North West Sussex has three NMHTs located in Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex. Each NMHT covers a geographical area aligned with GP surgeries to facilitate liaison with Primary Care colleagues. There are two other consultant posts in Mid Sussex NMHT covering East Grinstead and Burgess Hill. There is also a specialty doctor in Haywards Heath and specialist doctor at East Grinstead.
This role offers a Recruitment and Retention payment of £45,000 structured over a three‑year period as follows:
* £15,000 payable upon successful recruitment
* £10,000 payable at 12 months' service
* £10,000 payable at 24 months' service
* £10,000 payable at 36 months' service
The Recruitment and Retention payment is pro rata for part‑time employees.
Main Duties
As a consultant psychiatrist in our large multi‑disciplinary community mental health team, you will provide specialist assessments and treatment to patients presenting with complex and unstable mental health and social needs. Your responsibilities will include:
* Provide specialist medical /psychiatric assessment and evidence‑based treatment to patients referred to the service.
* Provide clinical supervision to trainees and informal advice and supervision to non‑medical members of the team.
* Fulfil the duties of Responsible Clinician for patients subject to Community Treatment Orders, including attendance at Manager Hearings and Tribunals.
* Conduct Mental Health Act assessments for patients on the team caseload.
* Liaise with inpatient Responsible Clinicians.
* Liaise with the forensic team / drug and alcohol services and risk panel as required.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Eligibility
* Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Transport
* Holds and will use a valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
* Excellent knowledge in specialty.
* Excellent clinical skills using bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
