About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Sports and Active Life team as a Duty Manager, overseeing day-to-day operations across our two vibrant university sports centres.
As Duty Manager, you’ll be the operational lead on shift, ensuring the safe, efficient, and customer-focused running of our facilities. You’ll manage and support front-line staff, uphold the highest standards of health and safety, and respond effectively to operational issues including maintenance, cleaning, and pool management.
This is a varied and hands-on role within a supportive university environment that values teamwork, professional development, and wellbeing. You’ll gain experience across pool plant operations, customer service, and facility management, with opportunities to develop through formal training and career progression within the sports sector.
About you
To be considered for the Duty Manager role, you’ll need 5 GCSEs (grade C/4 or above) or equivalent qualifications, along with experience in a customer-focused environment. Previous experience in the leisure, fitness, or recreational sector would be an advantage, as would a good understanding of health and safety policies and operational procedures.
We’re looking for someone who can stay calm and confident in fast-paced or emergency situations, with strong communication and problem-solving skills. This is a hands-on, people-focused position that offers real variety — from leading daily operations to ensuring an excellent customer experience. The role involves various shift patterns including evenings, and weekends, so flexibility across the seven-day operation is essential.
