An inclusive and well-regarded primary school in the Aigburth area of Liverpool is seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with complex needs on a one-to-one basis. This is a rewarding opportunity for a candidate who is confident, proactive, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide consistent 1:1 support to a child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or who is on the SEN assessment pathway
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, the SENCO, and external professionals to deliver targeted interventions
* Support the pupil’s social, emotional, and behavioural development, including the use of de-escalation strategies during moments of crisis or distress
* Confidently manage challenging behaviour in a calm, structured and supportive manner
* Incorporate sensory activities and therapeutic approaches to help regulate emotional responses and promote engagement
* Assist with implementing personalised learning strategies in line with the child’s EHCP and school targets
* Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil to encourage independence and resilience
* Previous experience supporting children with SEN, including those with EHCPs or awaiting assessment
* Confident in working 1:1 with pupils who may display complex or challenging behaviour
* Knowledge and experience of using sensory-based strategies to support engagement and regulation
* Ability to recognise early signs of dysregulation and effectively use de-escalation techniques
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* A calm, patient, and consistent approach
* A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one
* Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent SEN-related qualification
* Team Teach, MAPA or similar behaviour management training (not essential but advantageous)
