Job Overview – Data Centre Shift Leader / Shift Engineer As a Data Centre Shift Leader / Shift Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining uptime, resilience, and operational reliability within a mission-critical environment.
You will be responsible for overseeing electrical and mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring all works are delivered in line with Service Level Agreements (SLAs), compliance standards, and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance
1. Operate and maintain electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems within a strict change management framework to support 100% uptime
2. Monitor, control, and troubleshoot critical plant and infrastructure systems
3. Manage incidents, problems, change requests, and escalations through to resolution
4. Oversee operation of key systems including: HV/LV electrical distribution UPS systems and generators HVAC and cooling systems Fire detection and suppression systems Water treatment and associated plant
Systems & Monitoring
5. Utilise BMS, PMS, and CMS systems to monitor and optimise site performance
6. Ensure accurate system data and operational reporting
7. Proactively identify risks and opportunities for performance improvement
PPM & Contractor Management
8. Plan and deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) in line with schedules
9. Coordinate and supervise subcontractors and specialist vendors
10. Ensure all works are delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard
Requirements Essential
11. Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
12. Strong experience in: Electrical systems (LV/MV) fault finding and repair Mechanical / HVAC systems maintenance
13. Experience working in critical environments, data centres, or building services
14. Solid understanding of safe systems of work and electrical regulations
15. Proven ability in troubleshooting and fault diagnosis
Desirable
16. HND / HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
17. Background in a Data Centre or mission-critical environment
18. Recognised electrical or mechanical certifications
19. Ex-Forces engineering background
20. Experience with medium voltage systems
Candidate Profile
21. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
22. Good understanding of change management processes
23. Experience working with service desk / ticketing systems
24. Ability to follow technical procedures and documentation
25. Strong decision-making and organisational skills
26. Effective team player with the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines
27. Working knowledge of BMS and CAFM / PPM systems
