Shift Maintenance Technician
Location: Chirnside, Scottish Borders
Hours: Full-time, permanent 5-shift, 12-hour rota
We are looking for a skilled Shift Maintenance Technician to join a busy manufacturing site in Chirnside. This permanent role offers the chance to play a key part in maintaining reliable and safe plant operations across a rotating shift pattern.
The Role
As a Shift Maintenance Technician, you will carry out maintenance, repairs, and fault-finding across electrical systems with some mechanical and instrumentation responsibilities. You will work proactively to prevent equipment failures and support continuous improvement initiatives to maximise production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform proactive and reactive maintenance on electrical systems and plant equipment, including 415v switchgear, AC drives, inverters, and PLC-controlled systems.
* Carry out mechanical maintenance and basic instrumentation tasks as required.
* Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, and process diagrams.
* Diagnose and resolve equipment faults efficiently, minimising downtime.
* Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work.
* Follow and enforce all health and safety procedures, promoting a safety-first culture.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to support smooth production operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
You will be a competent, hands-on maintenance technician with a strong electrical background and some mechanical/instrumentation knowledge. You should be confident, proactive, and able to work independently on complex tasks while contributing to a team environment.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Completed time-served electrical apprenticeship or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
* Proven experience in an industrial or manufacturing maintenance role.
* Sound knowledge of 18th Edition wiring regulations and electrical safety standards.
* Experience fault-finding on AC drives, inverters, 415v switchgear, and PLCs.
* Practical mechanical and instrumentation experience is highly desirable.
* Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and technical manuals.
* Strong problem-solving, analytical, and practical skills.
* IT literate and capable of maintaining accurate maintenance records.
* Strong safety mindset with a disciplined approach to procedures.
