Job Summary
Cornwall Hospice is looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and highly motivated Occupational Therapist to be based at our hospice in St Austell. The role requires flexibility to work between St Austell and Hayle inpatient hospices, with outreach to community settings and home environment. You should be able to hold your own caseload and have experience within a ward environment and multidisciplinary team. Prior experience in oncology/haematology or palliative care is preferred, while rehabilitation, long‑term condition management and symptom control are desirable. A degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and HCPC registration are essential. This position offers the opportunity to work with a specialist multidisciplinary team providing care for people with palliative and life‑limiting illnesses. Hours are flexible to support work‑life balance.
Main Responsibilities
* Provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy service, performing specialist assessments of patients, including those with highly complex presentations using evidence‑based, patient‑centred principles.
* Develop treatment plans and deliver them as an autonomous practitioner.
* Develop specialist knowledge in palliative care and rehabilitation of individuals with life‑limiting conditions.
* Act as an expert resource, providing advice, education and support to other health care professionals within the multidisciplinary team.
* Attend multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure an integrated approach and benefit patient care and discharge plans.
* Liaise with other healthcare professionals providing therapy services internally and across other services in Cornwall.
* Promote the values of specialist palliative care and support patients, families and carers.
* Demonstrate and promote the values of Cornwall Hospice – Compassion, Togetherness, and Integrity.
* Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with BAOT and Cornwall Hospice standards.
* Represent the Occupational Therapy service at multidisciplinary team meetings and integrate OT treatments into the treatment programme.
* Work in a variety of settings including wards, patient homes and clinics, and transport self and equipment to visit patients and attend meetings.
* Facilitate discharge planning and coordinate with other professionals and agencies to meet identified needs.

Qualifications
* Essential – HCPC registration with a good working knowledge of national and local standards and care pathways. Ability to audit own and team practice and maintain accurate records.
* Desirable – Experience in oncology/haematology or palliative care, rehabilitation, long‑term condition management and symptom control; evidence of continuous professional development.
Professional Development and Governance
Maintain competency through CPD activities, maintain a portfolio of personal development, participate in staff appraisal schemes, attend in‑service training programmes and tutorials, and supervise students on placement. Comply with HCPC, BAOT, RCOT and other relevant governance standards.
Person Specification
* Essential – Ability to work independently and legally in patient care, manage caseloads autonomously, and communicate complex information effectively.
* Desirable – Experience in multidisciplinary team settings, patient education, and the ability to motivate and persuade patients with complex conditions.
