A well-established veterinary practice in Norwich is seeking a Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join its dynamic team. This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced veterinary professional to step into a leadership position, mentor colleagues, and contribute to the continuous growth and development of the practice.

About the Practice

1. Located in a vibrant city with the perfect balance of urban convenience and countryside charm, this practice is situated just minutes from the city center, 30 minutes from the coast, and 15 minutes from the Broads. The area offers a rich cultural experience, beautiful architecture, and excellent shopping options.
2. This purpose-built practice is part of a larger network of veterinary surgeries in Norwich while remaining independently owned and operated.

The team includes:

3. 3 Veterinary Surgeons, including two experienced vets and two recent graduates
4. 6 Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs), 1 Student Veterinary Nurse, and multiple support staff

A well-equipped facility featuring:

5. Six consultation rooms
6. Two operating theatres
7. A dental suite with dental X-ray
8. Dedicated imaging room with digital X-ray, ultrasound, and rigid endoscopy
9. A separate pharmacy
10. Dedicated dog, cat, and exotic animal wards, as well as separate waiting areas
11. Additionally, the practice is part of a larger group with certificate holders in surgery and ophthalmology, and four other vets currently working toward further specialisations. Advanced equipment, including new ultrasound, digital X-ray, endoscopy, tonometry, and multi-parameter monitoring units, ensures the highest standard of care for patients.

The Role: The Senior Veterinary Surgeon will play a crucial role in leading and mentoring the veterinary team. The primary focus is on supporting the professional development of new graduate veterinarians while maintaining excellent clinical standards and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

12. Provide hands-on coaching and mentorship to veterinarians and veterinary nurses
13. Oversee and support the veterinary team, ensuring a high standard of clinical care
14. Guide recent graduates, helping them develop confidence in consultations, procedures, and case management
15. Deliver training sessions on veterinary best practices, procedures, and new technologies
16. Assess and audit team members' performance, creating tailored development plans
17. Take responsibility for veterinary team management, including rota coverage and performance evaluation
18. Ensure excellent communication and collaboration between vets, nurses, and support staff
19. Confidently handle a varied caseload, including routine and non-routine cases

The Candidate: This role is ideal for a veterinary professional with a passion for leadership, coaching, and clinical excellence. The ideal candidate will have:

20. Proven experience in mentoring or coaching veterinary professionals (or a strong desire to develop in this area)
21. A degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) and full RCVS registration
22. Strong surgical and medical skills, with an ability to oversee a diverse caseload
23. Excellent communication and leadership abilities
24. A desire to contribute to practice growth and expansion
25. Additionally, candidates with a special interest in feline medicine are encouraged to apply, as the practice is looking to strengthen its expertise in this area.

The Package: This position offers a highly competitive package, including:

26. Salary from £60,000+ (dependent on experience)
27. Flexible working hours: 30-40 hours per week, with no out-of-hours (OOH) work and 1 in 5 weekends
